WINTER
FESTIVITIES – EL COSO BLANCO
The famous ‘Coso Blanco’, mayor activity
of the winter festivities takes place on the first
weekend of February. It concerns a procession of carriages
and disguised people as if it might be a carnival,
celebrated too early. Kilos of caramels are thrown
to the public and in the street ‘Calle Barcelona’
several cannons are placed which fire an authentic
rain of confetti, hence the festival name. |
NITS DAURADES
OF SALOU
The summer Fiesta in Salou takes place between the
10th and 15th of August. It concerns one of the
most impressive happenings with thousands of colours
and lights, illuminating the summer sky of the Costa
Dorada. There are many activities, such as ‘las
verbenas’, traditional dances, a beauty competition
and a lot of music concerts. On the 15th of August,
the festivities are ended with an impressive show
of fireworks (castillos de fuegos).
This is one of the most popular and traditional
festivities with magnificent colours and folklore,
with which the tourists as well as the natives are
very satisfied.

FESTIVAL
OF KING JAUME I
At the end of the summer, between the 3th and 10th
of september, the commemorative historical festival
of Salou is celebrated. It concerns a festival that
memorises the events wich happened in the harbour
of Salou when King Jaume I set sail with his fleet
to conquer Majorca in 1229.
There are several activities, for example: the regatta
which revives the crossing of King Jaume I, a medieval
procession of carriages and a lot of people disguised
as soldiers, noblemen, and even King Jaume I is represented.
There is also a medieval market with salesmen of various
artisanal specialities.
Important are also the several processions and religious
ceremonies.
