ELS
PORTS NATURAL PARK
The Els Ports mountain range is located at the point
where the territories of Catalonia, Aragon and Valencia
converge. They exemplify the allure that results from
a combination of nature and tradition.
The exceptional location of Els Ports, between the
Iberian and the Catalan mountain ranges, allows for
the presence and conservation of a unique and varied
vegetation and flora, with examples of mountains and
humid climate species, as well as those typical of
the Mediterranean. It is a true geobotanical paradise,
in which we can find more than a thousand different
species. Of particular interest are the populations
of beech, some of the most southerly on the Iberian
Peninsula.
|
This
large diversity of vegetation also gives rise to an
abundant and varied fauna, the most notable of which
is the Spanish ibex, an endemic species on the Iberian
Peninsula. Many species of birds find Els Ports an
ideal place of refuge, and there are many amphibians
and reptiles.
Spectacular geological formations constitute an impressive
landscape. The relief is of steep escarpments and
deep, narrow ravines. The highest point, Mont Caro
(1,447 metres), offers fabulous views of the Ebro
Plain as for as the Delta and the other coastal and
inland mountain ranges of the Terres de L'Ebre.
