What to see in Tarragona?

Tarragona is a Catalan city located on the shores of the Mediterranean Sea, in the south of Cataluña and capital of the province.  The beaches of the Costa Dorada, with its calm and warm waters, make Tarragona an indispensable destination in the summer, but its historic and artistic heritage makes it an attractive proposition all year round.

The origins of this city date back to faraway times, being known as RomanTarraco, from when numerous monuments have been inherited such as the old Roman circus or the amphitheatre. The city of Tarragona is considered to be Heritage of Humanity by UNESCO

If you are visiting Tarragona take the time to stroll around the streets of its Old Quarter, in the upper part of the city, and where you can see the remains of the Roman Wall and enjoy a good variety of restaurants and bars.

You will also want to follow the tradition of looking over the Mediterranean Balcony, located at the tip of the Rambla de Tarragona and from where you will be able to "Tocarferro" touch the iron of the railing that separates you from a cliff with views of the sea, for good luck. From here it is well worth contemplating the fabulous views of the sea and why not start a tourist route that will take you to the Tarraco amphitheatre, from the I Century or the Roman Circus of Tarraco in the Old Quarter itself.

Apart from the Roman monuments, it is also worth seeing the Tarragona Cathedral, which dates back to the XII century, or entering Casa de la Fiesta de Tarragona to find out a little more about the cultural heritage of this beautiful city.  Here you will find out in detail everything about the famous Santa Tecla Festivities, which are held every year in September.

Tarragona is a city that invites you to stay, to find out about its history in some depth and to contemplate its monuments, but above all to enjoy the good life, the Mediterranean sunshine, the cuisine and the traditional festivities that are scattered throughout the year, but particularly during the summer months with Tarraco Viva at the end of May,Revetlla de San Joan,; in June, or the International Fireworks Competition;in July, as well as the San Magi festivities in August.  Come to Tarragona and become immersed in its joie de vivre!
