Beaches of Miami Platja: A sea of pirates and corsairs

Miami Playa, with its 12 km of Blue Flag sandy shores, is one of the most beautiful holiday destinations on the Costa Dorada and an ideal haven of the Mediterranean to disconnect. A destination especially suitable for families. The magnificent beaches and quiet coves of Miami Playa are never overcrowded, even in high season. If you are looking for even more peace and quiet to enjoy a relaxing day at the beach with your family and you like a natural environment, you have plenty of coves to choose from.

If you like water activities and sports, in Miami Playa you can enjoy all kinds of experiences in the sea or on the beach. The Nautic Park (nautical activity centre) offers an infinity of water sports such as kayaking, paddle surfing, windsurfing, catamaran excursions or a ride on a pedal boat for families with small children. And if you're an adrenaline junkie, you can sign up for kitesurfing lessons or a banana boat ride.

Miami's beaches offer a wide range of beach bars, beach clubs and restaurants where you can have a drink or an ice cream. You can see our recommendations in our Guide to the best restaurants in Miami Playa.

We also recommend the "Pirates and Legends Route", a hiking route (11 km along the GR92) along the coastline of Miami Playa, where you can discover ancient legends and tales of an area frequented by pirates. It's an easy activity for the whole family due to its low difficulty.

Are you ready? Well, let the adventure begin!

UHC Guide: Top 10 Beaches and Coves in Miami Playa, Costa Daurada

1. Punta del Riu beach – because pets are people too!

Your family vacation should include the whole family. Even the furry ones (and we're not talking about Uncle Alan).

If you want to bring your pet, go to the Playa Punta del Riu. A small golden sanded beach and calm waters, where pets are allowed to enjoy a day at the beach. This beach offers all kinds of services, such as lifeguard, access for people with reduced mobility, beach umbrella rental, beach bar, showers and toilets. From the Punta del Riu beach you can take a pleasant walk through a beautiful landscape of natural interest. A wooden walkway takes you over the mouth of the Llastres River, linking with the town and beaches of Hospitalet de l'Infant. It is an urban beach, but it has a special charm. The sand is scattered with palm trees, so if you're lucky you'll have a natural umbrella at your disposal. There is a beach bar for refreshments and a small playground for the kids.

  • Lifeguard.
  • Sunshades and sun loungers for hire.
  • Blue flag.

This narrow and extensive beach, more than 2.5 km long, is located on the outskirts of Miami, with hardly any buildings. It is characterised mainly by its perfect combination of the sea and a natural and wild environment. You can sunbathe and swim in the calm, clean waters. As it is the least touristic and also because it is so narrow, you can be close to the shore without being surrounded by other people. To get there you have to walk along some easy but somewhat remote, although very pretty, paths. In the afternoons it is common to see small groups of fishermen trying their luck with the rod. Despite its almost virgin surroundings, La Porquerola beach offers many services.

A totem pole was recently installed on the spot where Joan Miró is believed to have painted the pictures.

The coastline still bears witness (machine gun nests) to the Spanish Civil War. They were defensive constructions commissioned by the government of the Second Republic to counter possible attacks by sea.

One of the main attractions of the beach is its nautical lane, which allows you to moor boats. Rent your jet ski and come and eat at one of the best beach bars in the area!
